Gross motor skills are by definition skills that use your large muscles for large movements. in PE and when assessing your students we don't always use the word gross motor and the reason for that is because by definition exercises such as running a race, jumping, skipping can be considered gross motor. Instead we tend to split it into the before mentioned Locomotor skills and Object control skills. As we move forward here we will focus this post on object control skills. The video's provided will give some basic instruction on guiding your children in learning these skills. The writing that goes with each video will be where I will provide further instruction or ideas to you for how you can help break down some of the skills and additional ways to try with them.

Teaching steps:
| Advice: 1. if ball moves too fast deflate it so it roles slower 2. It may be easier for some to practice tapping it with only preferred foot first. 3. Start small by having student go 10 feet and then you can increase at the students pace. It is important that the distance used is one they can achieve so they are motivated to continue going at the activity. 4. do it with your child as they will be motivated more when someone is doing it with them. |
